Kapha dosha contains water and earth. This dosha provides structure and containment.
When Kapha is balanced, you'll likely feel loving, generous, and supported.
However, you might feel sad, attached, or depressed when Kapha is imbalanced. Physical imbalances show up as weight gain, lethargy, and mucus. Emotional imbalances include depression, melancholy, and inertia.
If Kapha is your predominant dosha or you're experiencing Kapha-like symptoms, here are some strategies to help you raise your energy and balance this dosha.
If you are Kapha-dominant, you likely don't have trouble sleeping and can be prone to oversleep. However, you only need 6-7 hours of sleep a night. Try going to bed at 10:30 and waking with the sunrise or before 6 AM. Avoid naps as they are likely to disturb your sleep.
To better balance Kapha tendencies like feelings of heaviness and lethargy, add warming spices to food like garlic, cinnamon, onion, cayenne, leeks, and ginger.
Move your body daily and mix things up with different exercises and movement practices so your routine doesn't get stale. Aerobic exercises like brisk walking, running, hiking, and cycling are terrific ways for Kapha-dominant women to feel energized.
Now that you know more about your unique mind/body type, you can start living in harmony with your body's natural rhythms. You'll see that when you live in alignment with your dosha, you're no longer consuming energy going against the grain. Instead, you'll feel energized and inspired.
